வந்தேறி ஆரியக்கூட்டத்தால் தன் மானம் இழந்து நடை பிணங்களாக வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருந்த காலத்தில் ,

ஒரு நாள் நாடார் வகுப்பை சேர்ந்த இரண்டு புதுமண தம்பதிகள் சந்தோசமாக ஜோடியாக திருநெல் வேலி சந்தைக்கு வந்தனர். அங்கு கூடி இருந்த ஆதிக்க ஜாதி வெறியர்களுக்கு ஒரே ஆத்திரம் காரணம் வந்தது.

அந்த மண பெண் ஜாக்க்கெட் போட்டிருந்தால் , உடனே கூட்டத்தில் இருந்த ஒருத்தன் ஈன ஜாதி நாய்யே உனக்கு ரவிக்கை ஒரு கேடா என்று அந்த பெண்ணின் பின்புறம் அருவாளை விட்டு ஜக்கக்கேட்டை அறுத்தான்,

ஜாக்க்கெட்டோடு தாலியும் அறுந்து விழ ஜாதி கலவரம் உண்டானது மக்கள் வெட்டி கொண்டு மடிந்தனர் இருவர் தரப்புளும் வழக்கு போட்டு வழக்கு சென்னைக்கு வந்தது

பிறகு வழக்கு சென்னை உயர் நீதி மன்றத்துக்கு வந்தததும் , ஆண்ட ஜாதிகளுக்கு வக்கீல் ஒரு பிராமிணன், ஜட்ஜ் ஒரு பிராமிணன் ,

நடார்களுக்கு வக்கீல் ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவ மத போதகர்.. விவாதம் நடந்து முடிந்தது எவ்வளவோ மானம் மனிதாபிமானம் போன்ற விவாதங்களை பாதிரியார் எடுத்து வைத்தார்,

முடிவில் பிராமணன் இந்து மனு தர்ம நீதி படி ஒரு தீண்டப்படாத பெண் மேலாடை அணியக்கூடாது என்று எழுதி முடித்தார் அந்த மக்கள் அதை கேட்டு கண்ணீர் வடித்தனர் , அப்போது பாதிரியார் நீங்கள் மனதோடு வாழ ஒரே ஒரு வழிதான் உள்ளது என்றார் அம்மக்கள் எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் பரவாயில்லை சொல்லுங்க.

எங்களுக்கு உயிரை விட மானம் தான் முக்கியம் என்றனர் அதற்க்கு அந்த பாதிரியார் இந்து சட்டப்படி ஒரு இந்து பெண் தானே மேலாடை அணியக்கூடாது ? அப்படியென்றால் நீங்கள் இந்த இழிவான இந்து மதத்திலிருந்து வெளியேறி கிறிஸ்துவத்துக்கு மாறுங்கள். அப்போதுதான் மேலாடை அணிய முடியும் உங்கள் மானம் காக்கப்படும் அப்போது உங்களை இந்து மனு சட்டம் கட்டு படுத்த முடியாது என்றார்.

ஜட்ஜும் ஆட்சேபனை இல்லை என்றதும் அந்த மக்கள் முழுவதும் கிறிஸ்தவர்களாக மதம் மாறினார்கள்.

இதை பார்த்த பார்ப்பான் முழுவதும் மறுவதற்குள் அவனே அதை தடுக்க யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் ஜாக்க்கெட் போடலாம் என்று சொல்லி விட்டான்..

மாதவிடாய் காலங்களில் தங்களது நாப்கினை பயன்படுத்தினால் நீளம் தாண்டலாம், உயரம் தாண்டலாம் என்கிற நிறுவனங்கள்,

சுத்தமான எங்கள் நாப்கினை பயன்படுத்தினால் கோவில்களில் விளக்கேற்றலாம், திருமணங்களுக்கு செல்லலாம், பிற மங்கல காரியங்களில் ஈடுபடலாம் என்று விளம்பரம் தருவார்களா ?

தேவதாசி​

20-ம் நூற்றாண்டு தொடக்கம்வரை தேவதாசிகள் இல்லாத கோவில்களே தென்னிந்தியாவில் இல்லை. இராசராச சோழன் காலத்தில் தஞ்சை பெரிய கோவிலில் மட்டும் 400 தேவதாசிகள் (தேவரடியார்கள்) இருந்ததாக தெரிய வருகின்றது.

கோவிலுக்கு தேவதாசியாக பணிசெய்யும் பெண்கள், வழிபாடு நேரங்களை தவிர பார்ப்பனர்களுக்கு விபச்சாரிகளாக செயல்படவேண்டும். 45 வயதுக்கு மேலான பெண்களை கோவில் நிர்வாகமே ஏலத்தில் விற்கும் வழக்கமும் இருந்தது.

இன்றைய இளைஞர்களுக்கு பெரியாரின் சமூக சீர்திருத்தங்களை பற்றிய இந்த வரலாறு தெரியாது.
முத்துலட்சுமி அம்மையார் தேவதாசி ஒழிப்பு பற்றிய தீர்மானத்தை சட்டசபையில் கொண்டு வந்தார். அப்போது இராஜாஜி இதில் அக்கறையில்லாமல் நடந்து கொண்டார். சத்தியமூர்த்தி அய்யர், சீனிவாச அய்யங்கார், கோவிந்த ராகவய்யர், ஷேசகிரி அய்யர், மு. வ. ராமநாத அய்யர் எனும் பார்ப்பன அணி இதை எதிர்த்தனர். பெண் விடுதலைச் சட்டம் அனைத்தையும் எதிர்த்தவர்கள் இவர்களே.

இதற்கு பார்ப்பனர்கள் சொன்ன காரணம் என்னவென்றால்.. இது சாஸ்திர விரோதம், மத விரோதம், இந்த சட்டத்தை எதிர்த்து நான் ஜெயிலுக்குப் போனாலும் போவோமே தவிர, சாஸ்திரத்தை எதிர்த்து நாங்கள் நரகத்திற்குப் போக சம்மதிக்க மாட்டோம் என்று கூறி தேவதாசி பெண்களை வைத்தே இந்த தீர்மானத்தை எதிர்த்து போராட வைத்தனர்.

இந்த இக்கட்டான சூழலில் பெரியாரிடம் வந்து "இந்த மாதிரி சட்டமன்றத்தில் பேசினார்கள். இதற்கு என்ன பதில் சொல்லுவது? நாளைக்கு இந்த மசோதா மீது பேசியாக வேண்டும் என்ன செய்வது" என்று முத்துலெட்சுமி ரெட்டி அம்மையார் ஆலோசனை கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு பெரியார் " நான் சொல்லுகிறபடி நீங்கள் சட்டமன்றத்தில் பேசுங்கள்" என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினார். பெரியார் சொன்னதை உள்வாங்கிக் கொண்டு அடுத்த நாள் இந்த அம்மையார் சட்டமன்றத்தில் விளக்கம் கொடுக்கத் தயாராக இருந்தார்.

அப்போது சத்தியமூர்த்தி அய்யர் பேசினார். "தேவர்களுக்கு அடியாள் என்றால் அது கடவுள் தொண்டு என்று அர்த்தம் என்று சொன்னார். அவர்கள் தங்களை அர்ப்பணித்து தொண்டு செய்வதால் புண்ணியம் பல சேர்த்து புண்ணியவதியாகிறார்கள்.'' என்றார்

அதற்கு முத்துலட்சுமி அம்மையார், எதிர்க்கட்சி பார்ப்பனர்களைப் பார்த்து "தேவதாசி ஒழிப்பு தீர்மானத்திற்கு எதிராக பேசும் உங்களிடம் ஒன்றே ஒன்று கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறேன். இதுவரையில் எங்க ஜாதியிலேயே கடவுளுக்கு இந்தத் தொண்டை எல்லாம் செய்தார்கள். எக்கச்சக்க புண்ணியத்தை சேர்த்து வைத்துள்ளார்கள்.
இனிமேல் அந்தத் தொண்டை உங்கள் பிராமண பெண்களே செய்யட்டும்.. நீங்களும் புண்ணியம் சேர்த்து கொள்ளுங்கள், அதற்கு யாரும் எதிர்ப்பு கூறமாட்டார்கள், உங்கள் சாத்திர சம்பிரதாயங்களும் கெட்டுப் போகாது" என்றார்.

இதைக் கேட்ட பார்ப்பனர்களுக்கு, ஒரு செருப்பை வாயில கவ்வக் கொடுத்து, இன்னொரு செருப்பை சாணில முக்கி அடித்தது போல் இருந்தது.

இவ்வளவு பிரச்சினைகளை மீறித்தான் தேவதாசி ஒழிப்பு தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.


Devadasi System.

"If women have to live as real human beings, three things must be done immediately. First, they should be removed from the kitchen. Second, the demon of jewellery must be exorcised. Third, one must chop off all problems of marriage.
Education and the right to property are the foundations for all this change. Women who have both of these should not face any barriers in taking a job of their choice. Those in power should help them in this regard. Anybody with worldly experience will not accept that women are incapable of doing a particular job. There are lots of instances in history to show that if women have the opportunity they can occupy any position. Right in front of our eyes we can see several such instances. If women take up jobs, these three requirements will be fulfilled gradually on their own.
The idea that a race should spend its whole life in the kitchen is several times worse than crude varnashrama. Those who have interest and talent in cooking can take up that job. Moreover, the methods of cooking have to be radically changed. It is certain that not even one percent of women who are educated, employed and have wealth will accept to work in the kitchen. A few people will raise the question, “Then what about food?” We need to make other arrangements for it. This question is like asking, “If there is no caste that mends slippers, who will mend my slippers?”
Second, the demon of jewellery! This madness is decreasing day by day because of the high price of gold, higher education and contact with western culture. We think that with the passage of time it will reduce further. We feel that after women get employment and property, they will not bother about having a lot of jewellery, and just prefer to have one or two pieces of jewellery.
Now the third need is most essential—the problem of marriage. It is crucial for women to have independent employment to stop sacrificing their whole life for meaningless restrictions like caste, religion, age, lineage, kinship, gotra, money, position, status, parental compulsion and so on. If women are given the opportunity and the right to move equally with men, they will destroy all these shackles of slavery in a second.

"ஈறோடு பேன் நிறைந்த தலைக்கு
ஈரோட்டுச் சீப்பொன்று இல்லாவிட்டால்

– இப்படி ஒரு கவியரங்கில் தந்தை பெரியாரைப் பற்றிப் பாடினார் கலைஞர்.

இன்று தமிழ்நாட்டை மொட்டையடிக்க நினைக்கும் ஒரு கும்பல், தந்தை பெரியாரின் சிலைகளை, படங்களை அவமானப்படுத்துவதன் மூலம் அதைச் சாதித்துவிடலாம் என அலைகிறது. அந்தக் கும்பலால் அவரது ஓர் இழையைக்கூட ஒன்றும் செய்ய முடியாது.
பெரியாரை... அவரது பெயரை இங்கிருந்து அகற்ற வேண்டுமென்றால்... சாதி, மத, புராண, மூடத்தன, ஆணாதிக்க, தேசிய பொய்க்குப்பைகள் அகல வேண்டும். அதை அந்தக் குப்பைகளால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாது.

என்றாலும் "இது பெரியார் மண் என்று நாம் எப்போதும் போல் அசட்டையாக இருக்கிற காலம் இதுவல்ல. இது பொய்கள் வெற்றி பெறும் காலம். அதீத நம்பிக்கையில் நாம் அமைதியாக இருந்துவிடக் கூடாத காலம். கூடுதலாய் நாம் வினையாற்ற வேண்டிய காலம்" என்கிற பழ.புகழேந்தி,

"எமைத் திருத்தி வரைந்த தூரிகை" என்று கவித்துவ உரையாடலாக ஒரு சிறு நூலை எழுதியிருக்கிறார்....

அது எப்படி என்பதை சங்கிகளும் உணரும் விதத்தில் உரைத்திருக்கிறார்...

புகழேந்தியின் சொல்லோவியங்கள் இந்நூலை... பேசும் சித்திர நூலாக மாற்றி இருக்கிறது ஓவியர் மணிவர்மாவின் கோட்டோவியங்கள்.
அந்த பூதக்கண்ணாடி அவர்களைக் கண்காணித்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. அந்தக் கைத்தடி அநீதிக்கெதிராக சுழன்றுகொண்டே இருக்கிறது.
